Melodivision

Melodivision is an online song contest only for Instagram users all over the world can participate in, inspired by the Eurovision Song Contest.

Each country's Delegation (Delegations are formed by one Head of Delegation) gets to select an entry for each edition either by internal selection or national selection. Then the countries get to vote for each show (semi-final or final) to determine the qualifiers and the winner of the edition.

So far, sixteen different countries have won the competition and therefore hosted the contest, Poland, Spain, Bulgaria, Belgium, Greece, Aland Islands, Cyprus, Ukraine, Sweden, Serbia, Kosovo, United Kingdom, United States, Romania, Israel and Ireland have all been winners and hosts of the contest, with the exception of Aland Islands, which gave it's hosting rights to Sweden. The latest winner is Ireland who won with the song "Falling", performed by LYRA. In the seventeenth edition Sweden won with the most amount of points for a winner, 247.

History

The first ever Melodivision Song Contest started on 8th of May 2016 when Spyros & Tasos decided to open an international music contest only for Instagram users. It was held in the capital city of the United Kingdom, London. Poland was the first ever country to win. The voting system has been taken from the Eurovision Song Contest. Each country awards 12 points to their favourite song, 10 for thr 2nd favourite and 8-1 for 3rd-10th respectively. The winner is traditionally set to be the host of the following edition. 19 nations were taking part in the first edition with 19 different songs. The biggest amount of countries that participated at once currently stands at 54.


During the 15th edition, the team revealed their story which correlated to the slogan "Telling Stories":

"It was May. @eurovision_gre sent a message to @greeceeurovision (@txsosisc now): "Would you like to create a contest with me?" No more words just a copy and paste from Melodifestivalen and done. At 6th of May the first final of Melodivision took place at United Kingdom.

Wasn't that professional but still we tried and we were always trying our best, because we loved what we were doing. As the contest was becoming bigger team had two arrivals. @Ivo_esc who later left but still gave a lot to this contest and also created the chat in WhatsApp. He (Ivo) entered with @esc_albania who is still hear hosting the shows with the best way!

Following Ivos withdrawal @esc_bih and @greeceesc , two other great members and persons became part of the team. And this is the latest synthesis of msc team and we want to say a big thanks to these people who worked and work hard for this contest. However, the biggest thanks belongs to you, since because you are hear and trying to improve. Because we love music and interaction with people from other nations."

At the end of edition 19, Timos (@greeceesc) decided to leave the team.

After edition 21 ended, Tasos (@txsosisc) decided to leave the team. 2 people replaced him - Felix (@esc_disgustang) & Nick (@eisc_evangeline)

Rules

Troughout the editions, rules have changed quite often. current rules stand as follows:


How To Take Part

  • You must have an Instagram account.
  • If you want to join, ask us to add you to waiting list.
  • When you reach top of the waiting list, you will be contacted.
  • Taking part with two accounts is strictly forbidden.

Countries

  • You can participate with any country (UN UN members + Kosovo Kosovo, Palestine Palestine, Taiwan Taiwan and the Vatican City Vatican City).
  • Autonomous regions cannot participate.
  • You can keep your country for every edition, swap to another, or withdraw.
  • If you don't confirm your country in the confirmation period (trough the DM), the MSC team will decide if you can continue with your participation.

Artists

  • The artist you choose should be somehow related with the country you choose. (lived for at least for one year, born, or at least one of the parents was born in that country).
    • For groups/bands, at least one member must be from the country that you choose.
  • The artist must be at least 16 years old to compete.
  • If two countries want to choose the same artist, the country which confirmed first will take it, and the other country has to choose a different artist.

Songs

  • All the songs competing must be released after 2013 or at least exists in 2013 albums.
  • Covers and parodies are not allowed.
  • Eurovision network songs are not allowed.
    • Eurovision national final songs can take part. (in NF season, you can send song from NF only when NF ends).
  • The song must be confirmed in confirmation period.
  • It's allowed to hold a national final to select your song.
  • If you don't confirm your entry in confirmation period (in DM), MSC team will decide if you can continue with your participation.

Voting

  • Voting for yourself is not allowed.
  • You should vote your top 10 favorite acts by giving them 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,10 or 12 points. (12 for your favorite)
  • When you send your points, you cannot change them.
  • In case that :
    • You didn't vote in ESC style, you will be disqualified.
    • You failed to vote in your semi-final, you will be disqualified. (and you will get a 50% strike)
    • You failed to vote in grand final, and you qualified for the final, you will get a 50% strike and you will lose 50% of your total points.
    • You failed to vote in grand final, and you didn't qualify for the final, you will get a 25% strike.
    • A 100 % strike means a ban from the contest. (if you are banned, you can't participate anymore)

Other

  • In case that you win MSC, you get right to choose the host city, help picking the slogan etc.
  • If there is a tie, the country that got more 12 points will win the contest.
    • In case the tie is still unbroken, the process is repeated with 10 points.
    • In case the tie is still unbroken, the process is repeated with 8 points.
    • In case the tie is still unbroken, the process is repeated with 7 points.
    • In case the tie is still unbroken, the process is repeated with 6 points.
    • In case the tie is still unbroken, the process is repeated with 5 points.
    • In case the tie is still unbroken, the process is repeated with 4 points.
    • In case the tie is still unbroken, the process is repeated with 3 points.
    • In case the tie is still unbroken, the process is repeated with 2 points.
    • In case the tie is still unbroken, the process is repeated with 1 points.
    • In case the tie is still unbroken, all countries participating in the tie are crowned as winners.
  • Every time you change your Instagram username you should inform us about it trough the DM.
  • Spokespersons can't be politics related.
  • Friendvoting is strictly forbidden. In case that you are doing that, team will decide about strikes.
